Kayseri Anadolu High School visits SFL

On 27th of April, students from Kayseri Anadolu High School visited SFL English Preparatory School. In the one hour that they spent at the SSSC (Student Self Study Centre), they were given information about the activities and programmes of our school. The students said they were impressed with what they saw during their visit to our university.

All the members of the club, together with their teacher Eren Kufi, come together on a trip to the famous St. Barnabas Monastery near Famagusta....

Zhejiang Gonshang University of China visits SFL

The Zhejiang Gonshang University of China, including the Rector of the university, visited the EMU SFL English Preparatory School on 24th April 2012. The group was given information about SFL as a whole, international exams offered, our promotion office, and the SSSC. The guests were also encouraged to try Turkish coffee with no sugar on this visit :)))

Nazilli Fen Bilimleri Dershanesi and Karşıyaka Şemikler Lisesi visit SFL

On the 13th and 20th of April, School of Foreign Languages hosted a group of young people from Nazilli Fen Bilimleri Dershanesi and Karşıyaka Şemikler Lisesi. The visiting students and teachers were given information about the activities and programmes of SFL. Thanks to Promotion team and everyone behind the scenes who contribute to the successful representation of our school.

A seminar by Sam Mc Carter

On the 19th of April, Sam Mc Carter gave a seminar at EMU on Coherence and Cohesion and developing arguments in the IELTS examination. Sponsored by MacMillan and Deniz Plaza, the talk was attended by SFL MLD teachers, including the ones teaching IELTS courses. Sam Mc Carter is the author of IELTS books by MacMillan publishers.

A seminar by Gareth Rees- The Value and Use of Communication and Collaboration in English Language Teaching

On the 18th of April, Gareth Rees gave a seminar at EMU on The Value and Use of Communication and Collaboration in ELT. Sponsored by Longman Pearson and Berberoglu bookshop, the talk set the skills of communication and collaboration within the context of the 21st Century Skills Framework, with a discussion of the role of ELT within a wider educational setting. The seminar took place at the Central Lecture halls, and attended by SFL teachers, teachers from other departments as well as post-graduate students of the ELT department. Two English teachers from Russia, Vladimir University, were also there. Gareth Rees works at the University of the Arts London, and is currently Course Leader for EAP Overseas, and Course Leader for Cultural Awareness and Inter-cultural Communication. He is the co-author on the Language Leader series (Pearson) and writes for the BBC Learning English website.

Project Display Day at the English Preparatory School

SFL EPS gave certificates to the successful students and groups who produced magazines, brochures, posters, or videos for their project assignments. As some of the posters were on how to improve Famagusta as a town to live in, the Governor, and the Deputy Mayor of Famagusta were also invited. Our Vice Rector Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Uyguroglu also attended the ceremony.

The successful students were also given small presents.

With its many activities, SFL in the media again.....

SFL has been in the media almost every day recently, with many many student activities.... And here is what appeared in the national media on Sunday, 1st April 2012:

TOLES courses offered by SFL continue in Nicosia, Kyrenia and Famagusta

TOLES courses which are offered by the SFL Law team are continuing in Nicosia, Kyrenia and Famagusta, and the first stage will be completed on April 16th.

The participants will be able to take the TOLES exam on June 14th at EMU.
