Free Rice winners get their presents
The students who donated the most grains of rice to United Nations World Food Program in the competition between METU North Cyprus and EMU got their presents in the SSSC yesterday, 11th January 2012.

EMU ranks first again among universities in North Cyprus, number 128 among universities in the region, and number 313 among universities in the world, according to Eduroute, a web-based index.

EMU SFL - METU NCC FREERICE CHALLENGE
The following is from the METU Blog..... Thanks Steve!!!!!
"Thanks to everyone who took part in the 2011 EMU-METU.NCC FREERICE CHALLENGE. Well done to all...the motto of the FREERICE challenge in North Cyprus was "every meal begins with a single grain of rice..." All together, we amassed over 2 million grains of rice in less than one month, which will feed 125 hungry people.
1. In the SFL STUDENT CATEGOGRY, EMU students defeated METU.NCC by a donating a whopping 1,543,750 grains of rice, over 15 times as much as METU.NCC students, who donated a respectable 97,980 grains.
· The startling fact was that the vast majority of EMU's contributions came from a handful of students in Nevin Adalar's 103-07 class. Amazing work, guys!
· Just imagine how many meals we could have donated if each and every student in the SFL had pitched in....over 2 billion grains of rice--or enough to feed well over 10,000 people.
· Thanks 103-07 students and Nevin for setting such a great example.
· Thanks to all the students in ENG311 for pitching in -- you far outnumbered the EMU SFL students, but we just ran out of time...
2. While EMU dominated in the STUDENT CATEGORY, in the EFL INSTRUCTOR CATEGORY, METU.NCC came out handily on top, with the METU.NCC ELT teachers-in-training donating 147,390 compared to 125,240 for the Instructors in the School of Foreign Languages. The Instructors at EMU came a distant third with 92690 grains.
· Thanks to all the instructors who gave up their coffee breaks over to FREERICE for the month of December.

EPS students take part in the Ice Bowling Tournament
EMU EPS students got the opportunity to release some stress after their midterm exams by participating in the Ice Bowling Tournament organized by the Student Affairs Team. The winners were awarded prizes.

EPS students get to know the Turkish Cypriot culture
EMU EPS students got to know about the Turkish Cypriot culture in the village of Akova. A group of Intermediate level students, composed of Turkish as well as foreign students, watched the making of hellim, traditional Cypriot cheese, yoghurt, and other traditional tastes.

Charity Bazaar at SFL EPS- Volunteers don't necessarily have the time, they have the HEART!!!!!
Intermediate Prep School Students have held a Charity Bazaar in the grounds of the English Preparatory School today, 23rd December 2011, where they sold cakes, books, DVDs and hand-made crafts. The Intermediate level students are involved in different CIP (Civic Involvement Projects), and the Charity Bazaar was one of their many activities. The money raised at the Charity Bazaar will go to Ozen Old People's Home and the Animal Protection Association.

SFL EPS promotes International Exams in the CL Building on the main campus
EMU SFL EPS is an exam centre for 6 International English exams (TOEFL IBT, LCCI, City and Guilds, TOLES, IELTS, and BULATS).... Today, the members of the Promotion team promoted these exams in the CL building on the main campus.... The stand attracted a lot of interest.

SFL EPS hosts 4th Forum on Curricular Issues
EMU SFL English Preparatory School hosted the 4th Forum on Curricular Issues (FOCI) on 9th - 10th December. This year's theme was Collaborating with Colleagues to Consolidate the Curriculum. Representatives from various Universities from Turkey attended the forum.
