Civic Involvement Project groups in action again!!!


Different Civic Involvement Project groups were again involved in various activities on the 2nd of November. While one group cleaned Bedi's picnic area, another group visited Arapahmet mosque, Buyukhan and other historical sights in the capital city, Nicosia, and found out more about the Turkish Cypriot culture. The third project group visited and cleaned the Famagusta zoo and the fourth group visited an Old People's Home, and chatted with the elderly.

Community Involvement Project group visited the Social Risks Prevention Office with their teacher Sevdiye Toker


Community Involvement Project group visited the Social Risks Prevention Office with their teacher Senior Instructor Sevdiye Toker as part of their regular outdoor activities. International students as well as Turkish Cypriot ones listened to a presentation by Hatice Duzgun, the Vice Chair of the Social Risks Prevention Office. The Vice Chair presented statistics related to domestic violence against women in North Cyprus during the presentation. After the presentation, the students got the opportunity to ask further questions and also compare the statistics with those in their own countries.

TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills) certificates awarded to successful candidates


Successful candidates who took the TOLES exam on 14th June 2012 were awarded their TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills) certificates at a ceremony at EMU last week. EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School is the only TOLES centre in North Cyprus and Turkey.

FL EPS represented in China


On the 17th of August, as part of EMU’s official collaboration with Zhejiang Gongshang University, FL EPS invited volunteers to be involved in the exchange programme and spend a semester in Hangzhou, a beautiful city in China. Our pioneer, Senior Instructor Filiz Bodi, arrived in China last week, has been allocated a flat and an office, and has started teaching. We wish Filiz the very best of luck. We are sure that she is representing us in the best way.

Another Visit to SFL! The Samsun group


Another Visit to SFL! Students, teachers and journalists from Samsun visited FL and English Preparatory School on 3rd July 2012. Many thanks to them for being so kind, bringing handmade gifts to us from the Black Sea. During their visit to our school, the guests were given information about the programmes and activities carried out in FL EPS. They were so impressed with what they saw during their visit to our school that they said they would like to keep in touch for future collaboration.

Chinese dance and culture at SFL EPS

Photography Exhibition at SFL EPS


The Photography team, an Extra Curricular Activity group in the English Prep School, exhibited their best work at the Exhibition Hall, SFL EPS in the first week of June. The photography team students learned all about photography from their teacher Eren Kufi, and also visited beautiful places like St Barnabas Monastery, Kantara Castle, etc. during the semester.

Great Fun with Watermelons at SFL


We are very happy to realise one of the festival project ideas created by our students at our school. As we are in summer now & we’ve come to the end of the year, we’ve decided to hold a Watermelon eating Contest. Students had great fun eating delicious watermelons and competing with each other. The winners were awarded with a DVD about Cyprus.

CIP Presentations successfully completed!


EPS 104 students have been working on various community involvement projects since the beginning of Spring 2012, and as part of their projects, they gave powerpoint presentations to a large audience in the Green Hall. It was an exciting event because students were all enthusiastic about sharing what they had achieved throughout the semester. Congratulations to all CIP students and teachers who are sensitive to the problems of the society and the world they live in, and feel responsible to contribute positively to the society. CIP project groups: Introducing Turkish Cypriot Culture, Domestic Violence, Helping Animals, Environment and Recycling, Helping the Elderly and Homeless Children.
