What is the Proficiency Test?

The Proficiency Test checks whether your English is good enough for you to succeed in the university.

Part 1 checks your level. If you are scored as Beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate or Intermediate level you are placed in the English Preparatory School.

Part 2 checks the academic English of students who scored at above intermediate level. If you score 60 or above, you can directly enter your department.

If you are a postgraduate student, see the postgraduate website for further information.

Are there any Turkish courses in the English Preparatory School?

Since Turkish is the official language here in Northern Cyprus, it's obviously useful if you're not a Turkish speaker to get to know the language for your day-to-day life.

But did you know that Turkish is one of the top twenty most frequently used languages in the world, and that varieties of Turkish are spoken right across Turkey and central Asia and all the way to China?

Our advice is to take advantage of your time in Northern Cyprus and make sure you learn as much as you can of this increasingly important language.

Watch out for announcements about our survival Turkish programme.
